France Itinerary Planner

Combine Paris with a region over 7 to 21 nights, or start with four nights in Bordeaux and no Paris stay. Choose fewer bases and enough time between visits. An optional final Paris night stays within your total. This free tool builds an outline, not a booked itinerary or a quote.

Use the interactive planner to compare your options. Estimates are editorial recommendations, not live availability or forecasts.

Four starting outlines

Examples at a balanced pace, without a final return to Paris. Change the inputs above to adapt the night allocation.

7 nights: Provence and the Mediterranean

Paris (4 nights) → Avignon (3 nights)

Check Paris to Avignon services and distinguish Avignon TGV from Avignon Centre. For Nice, check the onward train and any connections before choosing departure times.

10 nights: Food, cities and local markets

Paris (5 nights) → Lyon (5 nights)

Compare Paris to Lyon trains, then Lyon to Avignon for a longer route. Check which station serves your accommodation and keep travel days lightly scheduled.

14 nights: Normandy and history

Paris (6 nights) → Rouen (4 nights) → Bayeux (4 nights)

Check trains from Paris Saint-Lazare toward Bayeux. With a Rouen stop, verify the onward connection rather than assuming a direct train. The D-Day beaches need local transport after the train journey.

4 nights: Bordeaux and Saint-Émilion, without Paris

Bordeaux (4 nights)

For Saint-Émilion, compare a driver with the regional train and a planned station-to-village connection. The station is below the village, not at its center. If you include Paris, check the actual Paris to Bordeaux and return services for your dates.

Seven nights: Paris and one other base

For a first visit, our starting split is four nights in Paris and three in one regional base. That might be Avignon for Provence, Lyon for food or Bayeux for Normandy history. This is eight calendar days including arrival and departure, not seven full sightseeing days. Returning to Paris before your flight uses part of the same night allowance.

Ten nights: more depth before more places

Ten nights allow longer stays in Paris and one regional base. Add countryside outings or a slower morning before adding another hotel. Train time alone is not the whole transfer: allow for packing, check-out, station access, luggage and check-in. Keep transfer days lighter than full days at your destination.

Bordeaux without a Paris stop

Choose Bordeaux and turn off the Paris stay for a regional trip from four nights. Our five-day sample keeps one Bordeaux hotel, a Saint-Émilion outing and one genuinely free day. Wine tasting is optional. Arcachon, another vineyard area or a cruise connection needs a separately planned extension; the tool never adds it automatically.

Two weeks or more: a third base can make sense

For the Provence, Lyon and Normandy routes, the tool considers a third base from twelve available nights at a balanced pace or eighteen at a slow pace. Bordeaux keeps one regional base even for a longer stay. These are editorial choices, not a rule or a complete day-by-day programme.

Trains between bases, a separate plan for the countryside

Choose intercity trains where the route works, then check local transport separately. A station in Avignon or Bayeux does not put every village or D-Day site within walking distance. Confirm buses, a guided excursion, a driver or a short car rental for the specific places you want. There is no need to keep a rental car in central Paris.

Finish near the right airport

Most routes start in Paris; the Bordeaux-only option does not. Check your actual arrival and departure points before booking hotels. The optional final Paris night is deducted from your total, not added on top. For Bordeaux without an initial Paris stay, allow at least five total nights to retain four in Bordeaux and one in Paris. This is a planning buffer, not a connection guarantee.

How many places should I visit in one week in France?

For seven nights with Paris, start with Paris and one regional base. A slower trip can stay in one region. The Bordeaux-only option starts at four nights in one hotel and does not require a Paris stop.

Can I plan Bordeaux and Saint-Émilion without Paris?

Yes. Select Bordeaux and turn off the initial Paris stay, or open the Bordeaux regional option directly. Start with four Bordeaux nights. A Saint-Émilion outing needs its own transport plan, including the station-to-village connection if you use the train. Tasting is optional; Arcachon and other extensions are separate.

Does the France itinerary planner count nights or days?

It allocates nights in France. Seven nights span eight calendar days with arrival and departure included. Transfer days and long-haul arrival days should not be counted as full sightseeing days.

Can I plan France without renting a car?

Yes, with suitable city bases and train connections. Country villages, wineries and dispersed historic sites need a separate local transport plan. Check buses or arrange a guided outing instead of assuming every stop is accessible by train.

Is this a live booking tool?

No. The routes and night allocations are editorial suggestions. Train schedules, opening dates, hotels and travel costs are not checked in real time. Personalized Chic Trip planning is a separate paid service.
