Yes: the TGV from Paris Montparnasse reaches Rennes in about ninety minutes, then the direct shuttle takes about seventy more. That buys four to five good hours on the Mont. The shared coaches do it in a thirteen to fourteen hour day, most of it on the motorway.
If you can spare the night, yes: the crowds drain away around six, the abbey is lit against the night sky, and the bay at dawn with the tide moving is the version no coach ever sees. We book the few hotels on the Mont or a good one facing it across the bay.
The bay has among the highest tides in Europe. At the biggest tides the Mont becomes an island for a few hours. The tide calendar is published far ahead, so we check it against your date and time your visit around high water when it is worth it.
