Italy Itinerary Planner

Choose one part of Italy, then give it enough time. Build a free outline for 7 to 21 nights, compare a balanced and slower pace, and see exactly which places fit. Start in Rome for the classic or southern route, or Milan for the northern route. No account or email is required.

Use the interactive planner to compare your options. Estimates are editorial recommendations, not live availability or forecasts.

Three Italy starting outlines

Balanced-pace examples, without a final return to the arrival city. Arrival, hotel changes and departure are not full sightseeing days.

7 nights: Rome + Florence

Rome (4 nights) → Florence (3 nights)

8 calendar days, including 5 full days between moves.

Compare intercity rail for Rome to Florence and, if included, Florence to Venice. Use your actual stations and dates; railway time alone excludes packing, station access, luggage and hotel check-in.

Left out to protect your pace: Venice.

11 nights: Rome + Naples + Sorrento

Rome (4 nights) → Naples (3 nights) → Sorrento (4 nights)

12 calendar days, including 8 full days between moves.

Use intercity rail between Rome and Naples. Sorrento is a separate local-rail or road transfer from Naples, not a high-speed station. Check EAV service notices, luggage needs and the actual hotel access.

14 nights: Milan + Varenna, Lake Como + Venice

Milan (4 nights) → Varenna, Lake Como (5 nights) → Venice (5 nights)

15 calendar days, including 11 full days between moves.

Check Trenord for Milan to Varenna-Esino. When the lake is included, plan Varenna to Venice via a connection in Milan rather than assuming a direct train. Milan to Venice uses the intercity rail corridor. Lake ferries are a separate local journey.

Seven nights are eight calendar days

Arrival and departure belong to the calendar, but they are not two extra sightseeing days. Hotel changes also take time. The result shows full days between travel days so you can see the trade-off. Seven nights start with Rome and Florence, Rome and Naples, or Milan and Venice. Venice, Sorrento or Lake Como is explicitly left out when it cannot fit the chosen outline.

Choose depth before a third hotel

A third base enters the classic route at ten available nights and the southern or northern routes at eleven. At a slower pace, all three wait until fifteen. These are Chic Trip's editorial thresholds, not transport rules or requirements. The optional final return night is deducted before deciding how many bases fit. Each main stay has at least three nights; the final return buffer has one.

Rail between cities does not solve every local journey

Compare Trenitalia's intercity network for the major-city legs. Varenna needs a separate regional connection, and travel onwards to Venice can mean going back through Milan. Sorrento requires a local-rail or road leg from Naples. Luggage, station transfers, bridges, hotel access and check-in all belong in the plan; the tool does not invent door-to-door times.

Leave space for the trip you actually want

Not every free afternoon needs a museum, boat or day trip. Use some of it for a neighborhood lunch, a quiet hotel break or a place you want to revisit. Check each museum's closure days and timed admissions before placing visits on real dates. Coastal boats and Lake Como ferries need a fresh timetable check for the season and weather.

Other places or something more personal?

Sicily, Puglia, the Dolomites and other regions are not squeezed into these three outlines. Choose a different route or a longer stay for them. Chic Trip can adapt the journey around particular requests, existing bookings, restaurant tastes and practical needs. Restaurant suggestions are refined with you, reservations are requested after approval, and confirmed plans stay together in the app. A written proposal confirms the scope, total and conditions.

Discuss a tailored Italy trip

Can I visit Rome, Florence and Venice in seven nights?

This tool keeps seven nights to Rome and Florence rather than assigning very short stays to all three cities. Venice is added from ten available nights at a balanced pace or fifteen at a slower pace. Those thresholds are editorial recommendations; a different itinerary can be discussed.

Does the Italy itinerary planner count nights or days?

It allocates nights spent in Italy. Seven nights span eight calendar days, including arrival and departure. The result separately counts days between hotel moves. Day trips, actual flight times and confirmed activities may reduce the time available for sightseeing.

Is the last night back in Rome or Milan extra?

No. If selected, the final night in your arrival city is deducted from the total before the other stays are allocated. A return journey may remove a third base. It is a planning buffer, not a guarantee that a train will connect with your flight.

Can I use the planner without renting a car?

The main city routes can be planned around rail, but local journeys still need checking. Lake Como boats, countryside outings, Sorrento access and the journey to your hotel are separate questions. The tool does not check live timetables, step-free access or luggage assistance.

Does this reserve visits or give a confirmed trip price?

No. This free tool creates an editorial outline, with no live prices, bookings or availability. A tailored Chic Trip proposal can refine the route, hotels, experiences and restaurant plans around you, with the total and conditions confirmed before you commit.
