Giverny is close to Paris, but it is not in Paris: the train stops in Vernon and Monet’s garden is seasonal. The right day depends on your mobility, your appetite for connections and whether Monet is the whole day or one part of it.
Take an early train from Paris Saint-Lazare to Vernon-Giverny, then the local shuttle or a pre-arranged taxi. Use a timed garden entry as the anchor. Visit the water garden, Clos Normand and house, then choose lunch, the Musée des Impressionnismes or the village before returning.
Independent is usually the best value. A small-group transfer removes the connections. A private car earns its cost for limited mobility, a family pace or a second stop—not simply because Giverny requires one.
