Lakeside Paris and the Grande Pagode, a Self-Guided Paris Walk

A gentle circuit around Lac Daumesnil, mixing water views, romantic islands and an unexpected Buddhist landmark without the empty transfer from the far side of the Bois de Vincennes.
The local move
Bring a picnic or pause near the lake. On busy weekends, walk the quieter southern bank before returning to the Porte Dorée side.

The stops
Porte Dorée Lake Entrance
Enter the woods from the Art Deco quarter and let the city give way quickly to trees and water.
Tip: Porte Dorée is the simplest public-transport start and finish for this circuit.
Lac Daumesnil North Bank
The first open lake view frames wooded islands, small boats and the broad eastern sky.
Tip: Walk close to the water only where the marked path allows it.
Temple of Love on Île de Reuilly
A small classical pavilion gives the island its romantic, almost theatrical character.
Tip: Use the footbridges and stay on public paths; the island can be busier around lunch.
Île de Reuilly Grotto and Bridge
Rockwork, water and a suspended bridge turn this corner of the lake into a miniature nineteenth-century landscape.
Tip: The bridge and uneven surfaces are optional; a level lakeside route remains available.
Grande Pagode
The former colonial-exhibition pavilion now houses a Buddhist centre and gives the lakeside walk its most surprising silhouette.
Tip: Do not count on entering: opening depends on ceremonies and announced events.
Lac Daumesnil South Bank
The quieter bank offers long views back across the water and a slower rhythm than the main promenade.
Tip: This stretch can be muddy after heavy rain, so use the surfaced parallel path when needed.
Lac Daumesnil Boathouse
Complete the circuit where boating and café life bring the lake back into contact with the city.
Tip: Treat boat rental as a seasonal bonus and check conditions on the day.
