Quick answer

Two regions, one trip shaped around you. Choose sensible bases, combine transport options and leave time for the places and meals you will enjoy.

Yes, you can combine Provence and the French Riviera in one tailor-made trip. At Chic Trip, we plan the route, help you choose where to stay, arrange the agreed bookings and reserve restaurants around your tastes. You can start with a journey from our collection or a completely different idea.

The key is not to fit every village and coastal town into the same holiday. It is to choose a few good bases, match the transport to each day and leave time to enjoy being there. A rental car may make sense for the countryside; a private driver can help on selected days; coastal trains can be the simplest choice elsewhere. You do not automatically need a chauffeur for the whole trip.

Start with two bases, not a different hotel every night

For a first visit, we often suggest one base in Provence and another on the coast. Travelling from west to east can work well if you arrive through Paris or Marseille and leave from Nice. The reverse can be just as sensible if it fits your flights. We check the actual arrival and departure options before settling the order.

An eight-night starting point: four nights in Provence, a transfer on day five, then four nights on the Riviera. That could mean markets and countryside days first, followed by Nice, a coastal outing and time by the sea. It is an example, not a minimum stay or a fixed package. With fewer nights, we reduce the number of stops; with ten to fourteen, there is more room for a second countryside area or longer pauses.

For inspiration, see Provence at Your Pace. Its seven-day, six-night outline is a Provence-only example, not the price or duration of a combined Provence and Riviera trip.

Choose a Provence base around how you want to travel

Avignon can suit a stay with walkable evenings, historic sights and rail connections. Aix-en-Provence may suit a route centred farther south. A Luberon village or country hotel gives a different experience, but its exact location matters: a beautiful rural property can require a drive for almost every meal or outing.

There are regional trains and buses in Provence, including routes serving parts of the Luberon. That does not mean every combination of villages works comfortably by public transport. We check the local transport options against your actual stops, return times and walking preferences before suggesting a car-free countryside day.

If you would enjoy driving, a rental car can be a practical choice for the rural part of the trip. We look at parking, luggage access and where to collect and return it. If you would rather not drive, we can price selected driver days or transfers, without assuming you want a vehicle and driver waiting throughout the holiday.

Pick a Riviera base that works beyond the hotel

Nice is a useful starting point for a first visit, with an airport, rail connections and plenty to explore without travelling elsewhere every day. Antibes or Cannes may fit your preferred hotel and seaside setting better. Cannes should not automatically be treated as the quiet option: the neighbourhood and event calendar matter.

A hillside hotel in Èze or a property on Cap-Ferrat can be a lovely choice, but we check the practical consequences too. How do you reach dinner? Is there a useful bus or train stop nearby? Would taxis or pre-arranged transfers make the stay easier? Our Riviera base guide helps frame those choices.

Rental car, private driver or train?

  • Rental car: useful for flexible countryside days if someone is happy to drive. Compare the full rental terms, including insurance, parking and any one-way return charge. If wine tasting is part of the day, plan a designated non-drinking driver or arrange transport.
  • Private driver: useful for rural outings, wine visits, luggage transfers or days when you simply prefer not to drive. We confirm the hours, route, waiting time and inclusions in the proposal. A driver is not automatically a guide; tell us if you want guided visits as well.
  • Train and local transport: often a good fit for coastal towns and city stays. Check the walk or onward connection from the station, not just whether a train reaches the town.

These are transport choices, not different levels of planning service. We can combine them within the same trip. Transport is arranged only as agreed in your written proposal.

Allow proper time for the move between regions

Plan the move from Provence to the Riviera as a meaningful part of the day, not a quick gap between two ambitious sightseeing programmes. Door-to-door timing depends on the hotels, traffic, luggage and the available train service.

Rail options can include a direct train from Avignon TGV to Nice or a connecting service. A change at Marseille is not always necessary. Avignon Centre and Avignon TGV are separate stations, so we check the precise departure station and how you will reach it.

A door-to-door private transfer avoids handling luggage between trains. Keeping a rental car for the move may also make sense, especially if you want a stop along the way. We compare these options for your dates rather than promise one journey time or a universally cheaper choice.

Use coastal trains, but check the last part of the journey

The ZOU! coastal rail network connects towns including Cannes, Antibes, Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Monaco and Menton, with services continuing towards Ventimiglia. Check the timetable, stops, engineering works and last return train for the day you plan to travel. Do not assume every train serves every station.

Two details are particularly easy to miss:

  • Èze: the coastal station is Èze-sur-Mer, not the hilltop village. The local bus connection or a taxi can cover the uphill journey; check the service for your date.
  • Grasse: the town is accessible by regional train. Its station is below the historic centre, so allow for a local bus, taxi or uphill walk. A private driver is an option, not the only way to visit.

One main outing, perhaps with a nearby second stop, usually makes for a more enjoyable day than collecting several town names. We build in time for lunch and the journey back.

Restaurants should fit the day and your tastes

You do not need a formal tasting menu every evening to eat well. Tell us about meals you enjoy, your preferred atmosphere, dietary needs and any occasion you want to celebrate. We suggest suitable places, refine the choices with you and handle the approved reservation requests.

We also consider practical details: whether dinner is walkable from the hotel, how long lunch will take, and who is driving afterwards. Booking policies vary by restaurant. A recommendation is not a confirmed table, and we do not guarantee access before the restaurant accepts the reservation.

Choose dates around your priorities, not a promise of perfect weather

Spring and early autumn can be appealing, but they are not automatically quiet or inexpensive. Check the Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix calendars before choosing a hotel. Major events can affect the surrounding area as well as the host city.

Summer calls for a comfortable pace, attention to heat and realistic driving and parking plans. If lavender is a priority, use local flowering information: the timing varies with the location, year and harvest, so no fixed week guarantees flowering fields.

Good weather is never guaranteed. Autumn can bring heavy Mediterranean rain, while some hotels, restaurants and attractions reduce their opening hours or close seasonally. We check individual stops rather than assume an entire village closes for winter.

Book around actual release dates

Start with your dates, route and the hotels or experiences that matter most to you. For busy periods, it is worth discussing these well ahead, while keeping the cancellation terms in view.

According to SNCF's sales calendar, TGV INOUI and INTERCITÉS tickets normally open around four months ahead, with seasonal releases and exceptions. Do not wait until six weeks before departure simply because an itinerary checklist says so. Regional trains and individual attractions follow their own rules.

We track the relevant booking dates once the trip has a defined route. No generic article can confirm a particular driver's availability, a museum slot or a train service for travel dates that have not yet been chosen.

Is the French Riviera Pass worth it?

Compare the attractions you actually want with the current pass inclusions before buying. The French Riviera Pass offers 24, 48 or 72 consecutive hours from first use, with one admission per included attraction. Some activities require advance reservations.

It is not an all-access ticket to every Riviera museum, and public buses, trams and trains are not included. Tourist sightseeing transport listed as a pass benefit is different from a public-transport ticket. A slower trip with only one paid visit each day may be better suited to individual tickets.

How we bring your trip together

Our published journeys and hotel ranges are starting points, not restrictions on where you can go or what you can ask for. The level of hotel and the experiences can change; the fully tailored planning, restaurant coordination and Chic Trip app remain part of the service.

Your proposal sets out the total price, what is included, what is paid separately and the applicable booking and cancellation conditions. A Provence-only example is not a quote for adding the Riviera. The number of nights, rooms, transfers and guided experiences all need to be matched to your trip.

Have something particular in mind? Tell us. We will look into it and explain what is possible, what needs checking and what it would cost before you decide.
